1. YAHOO - Started by Stanford graduates Jerry Yang and David Filo in 1994, Yahoo was basically a personal site named "Jerry's guide to World Wide Web". It was later renamed "Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle"(YAHOO). As time progressed, Yahoo added new technologies and, with its highly preferred domain name, attracts almost 16 billion visitors anually, making it rule the roost among the most visited websites of all time.

2. GOOGLE - Another brainchild of Stanford graduates, Google was the idea of Sergey Brim and Larry Page. They made a "web crawler" as a part of their academic projects and alter evolved the algorithm to make one of the most efficient search engines in the world. Google was started in 1998 and later took the world.

3. YOUTUBE - Owned as a subsidiary of Google, YouTube was initially started by three Paypal employees-Chad Hurley,Jawed Karim and Steven Chen in 2005. Due to heavy demand and utlilization of the online-video sharing concept that YouTube had introduced, it soon became one of the most visited websites.

4. LIVE.COM - It was launched by MSN way back in 2005 as one of the first windows personalized experience services. Customizable with gadgets and other mini devices, Live also enables users to have RSS feed, allowing them to view the latest news instantly in their desktops and other connected gadgets.

5. FACEBOOK - There are lots of social networking sites around, but Facebook.com is one of the pioneers in this field. The concept was founded and drafted by then-Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg. As the brainchild of Jimmy Wales and his co-worker Larry Sanger, Wikipedia attracts almost 700 million visitors annually and is a collaborative effort to provide knowledge to everyone for free.
